Enough with the cookie warnings already

Enough already! Every single site now throws up (an often broken) overlay with some message about how the site uses cookies to track me for ads. Most of the time there is a single option availble: "Agree". The intention was good, but the road to hell is paved with good intentions and these intentions are making my browsing experience hell. I guess having an IP address in the EU is making it worse - probably people outside the EU aren't feeling it as bad.

It is not making sites change their behaviour. It is not making users more informed. It is not making the web a better place. It is a complete fucking waste of bytes.

How the hell do we dig our way out of this mess?

Despite the best attempts by manufacturers to turn our computers into appliances that we have no control over, in 2019 you still have a lot of choice about what software you can use. Use a different browser and struggle through the thorns. Install ad blockers. Try a black hole DNS setup (Pi-hole?). It's not going to stop the cookie warning per-se but you are going to have a faster and cleaner browsing experience and hopefully ad networks start to see revenues drop as people switch on. Sure, they are going to continue to lie to their customers about their value proposition but eventually people will catch on.
